You are never to old to learn

Learning technique: writing

It is amazing to note that there is one common language world over that is widely used for communicating be it writing or emails or conducting international online business or for entertainment purposes and that is English. The internet has become accessible to many people worldwide due to this language called English, no matter what the local language is or which country the person belongs to, hence; it becomes imperative that one is well versed in English to be ahead of the competition and be well informed and thoroughly knowledgeable.

Now, whether this implies learning just to communicate with one another or whether to go the whole way and learn the language thoroughly is a matter of choice. Learning a language can be fun, but it requires dedication and the will to learn, out of one's own interest and should not be forced.

One way of learning could be reading and listening and then going for writing the same. Another is writing the alphabets and starting from the scratch, practise words and then move onto sentence formations. Once this is achieved, one can move further ahead and start writing essays or short stories, précis writing, letter writing etc which can vastly improve their language grasp.

There are many tuition classes available for learning English or one can even opt for learning online on the net. The point to be noted is to take it slowly and perfect one thing at a time before moving onto the next step. Visiting an English speaking country, having online pen friends or joining forums that can correct your writing and give you guidance can greatly help in improving your written as well as spoken skills. You can communicate via skype to these people and ask to be corrected when making a mistake.

One vital point in all this is not to feel ashamed or shy when making mistakes. Any new language takes time to master and it is only when you make mistakes, you will learn the correct usage, so do not feel disheartened when your mistake comes out in public or when somebody points it out to you. Take your own time and be patient and learn it the correct way. Nobody is born perfect and everybody will make their share of mistakes before achieving perfection in any field and this goes for learning English too!

When writing essays, concentrate on the topic given and write with ease and confidence. Ask a teacher to correct it and guide you accordingly. Next time, you can definitely improve on your essay writing skills if you follow the instructions charted out by your teacher. Similarly for short stories, understand the story first and do not be too hard on yourself, just write casually, even if your writing has many grammatical mistakes. Get it corrected and know the correct verbs or tenses or punctuations to be used and next time, your writing would have definitely improved a lot!

Unless you do something, you cannot know whether it is right or wrong; similarly, unless you write and make your mistakes and then practice on the correct way of writing, you cannot get a grasp of the language, so go ahead and have fun learning English without feeling self conscious or shy!
